Sydney
Sydney (5-3-07)
I didn`t celebrate my birthday that big in Adelaide because; when I came back from Kangaroo Island I didn`t know anybody anymore in the hostel and the next day I had a plane to catch at 6.20 am (5 am taxi). That night I went out to a pub with three dutch guys who I met before in Adelaide and on K.I. We didn`t made it that late because we were also still tired from K.I.
Next day on the airport in Sydney I was looking for a hostel. I found one in the red light district/ going out area in Sydney (Kings Cross). I knew that it is the cheapest area and also pretty close to the centre 10 min walk and they had a free airport pick up.
I did with a guy (who I met on the airport and went to the same hostel) a city walk and we went to the city tower. It was a very nice view from the tower, we were also lucky with the weather.
Today I started with my job hunting. I got some addresses from my travel agency and tomorrow I will go to there to give them my resume. If I can`t find anything I can start a job as money collector for some aids foundation but there the money isn`t that good but if i can`t find anything it is better than nothing.
Sydney 12-03-07
I’m now a week in Sydney looking for a job and still didn’t find something permanents. But i worked luckily enough two days for two different company’s. One was moving and the other one general work in a storehouse.
Today I’m going to look again for jobs because I need something permanents. But everything is welcome at the moment! I’ve still three numbers that I can call so I hope I’ll get something!
The weather was last week was a little bit unfair it was all the week bad till I had to work two days. But the Sunday was also good and went with the ferry to Manly beach because that was one of the things I wanted still to do in Sydney. The ferry was very cool to see the skyline from Sydney but the beach was to busy. When I came back i made some pictures from the botanical gardens. I think Sydney has the most beautiful one in Australia. (because I haven’t been in Perth Darwin and Alice Springs but i don’t expect that they are better).
In the evening I made some night pictures, luckily enough this time no attacks from aboriginals. When I took the pictures by the opera house there was some fireworks I think because of st Patrick’s day (Irish celebration day).
Sydney found a job! (15-03-07)
This is just a little update. Monday I searched for a job and was very lucky that some job agency had something directly for the next day. The job is some general work in a printing company the only was that was only for four days. But today I asked the boss if there is some work for me next week and he said that he has something. Hopefully I can work there after this week 3-4 more weeks and then i can finally go to New Zealand.
The job is very nice because the people are relaxed and nice. They make special prints on vinyl or photo paper for (big world) company’s like Starbucks, Toyota, David Jones, ING and many more.
Sydney 21-03-07
I’m still working for the same company i’m very happy with that, but they can’t guarantee that i can work there much longer. They look every day again. Last weekend was a busy weekend I went to Bondi beach one of the famous beaches in Sydney I went there for a coastal walk, it was very beautiful and something else than the city. Sydney is pretty diverge in nature and city area’s. It was a pity that the weather wasn’t that good, I started with clouds then after a while there came some sun and in the end there was rain. Sydney is not the best weather place since i’m here. But I heard that the summer in Sydney was pretty bad for Australian standards.
That evening i went with 10 other people from the hostel to a Irish pub because it was st patricks day (the week before was a other Irish celebration) It was very nice!
The sunday i went to the harbor bridge (the most famous bridge from Australia) the bridge was 75 years old and there was a lot going on there! In the night I went again with 6 other people from the hostel and we took some night shots!
The rest of the week was working and in the evening playing a card game and to bed so that is not very special.
Sydney (29-03-07)
I’m still working by the printing company! I didn’t expect that because some day’s there is not that much to do. But I’ve the idea that they don’t care that much about paying a man extra or not.
Last Friday I went to the city to watch the sunset, we were only a little to late and at the wrong area from the city. Saturday I went again to Bondi beach with some other people from the hostel (two German guys and a Norwegian guy). It was more fun because this time I could swim and do some boogie boarding (one off the guys bought a boogie board). It was perfect beach weather that day and I really enjoyed it! That evening I went with a guy from Argentina to a backpackers bar, the bar had a free hour of beer and free entree so that was good.
The next day I had a relaxing day played some poker in the hostel and won some money (almost nothing). The rest of the week I relaxed if I came back from work and played some card games or chess. The Norwegian guy is here for a chess tournaments so I don’t have any chance to win from him. But it’s nice to play against somebody who is pretty good.
Sydney (Watson bay) (1-4-7)
Again a update! Because I can use a laptop and the wireless internet is in this hostel for free so it’s easy to update my site! I can come back Monday for my job and hopefully I can work hole the week except the Friday because that is eastern.
I went yesterday with the Norwegian guy and the German guy to Watson bay! Thats a bay 35 minutes from the city by bus. From the bay you had a good view over the city and there was also a national park nice steep cliffs and rough water! (Little bit like the great ocean road but ofcourse it was not that nice). There was also a little beach but the bay was more for sailing boats, I could see it as well that the average people in Watson bay are a little bit more porsh.
In the evening I went out and saw a guy who I met in Melbourne that was good to see him again. The Sunday I worked for free accomodation (cleaning work).
Sydney (9-4-7)
This week looked like a short work week, because easter Friday and Monday (today) were off from the printing job. But in my long weekend I made a lot of hours in my hostel for some free accomodation and cash in hand. I was pretty happy with that because I can stay now two weeks for free and get some money and the weather was also not that good this weekend, otherwise I should be bored!
Only the Saturday I had off, I went to the Harbor bridge and walked to the other site. It was a prety nice view!
I want to work this week and maybe next week because it’s going pretty good with the money and I don’t know if I can find directly a job if I come back from New Zealand. Also I still enjoy my time here and I like the hostel work as well!
I wish everbody a good eastern!
Sydney (12-04)
I just put some more night pictures on my site. I did them together with my Norwegian roommate!
Sydney up to the hobbits and kiwi’s (19-4-2007)
Monday I will finally go to New Zealand. The country with the kiwi’s (birds who can’t fly), hobbits, very beautiful nature and off course all the extreme sports and adventure trips/tours. I’m really looking forward to see it and travel there around! I hope I can find a lift offer or people were I can buy/rent a car with!
Last weekend I didn’t do that special things, buying clothes and work (It’s colder over there) in the hostel for free accommodation! I’m happy that I did the work for free accommodation because it saved me in the end more than a week of work and wasting time in a city.
I’m happy that I can leave Sydney it was nice but enough. The nature around Sydney is very beautiful, the city is also nice (only a little to busy sometimes) and there is always something to do! But Australia is more than the big cities only!
Tomorrow is my last work day and we get something to eat from the company (they do it every two weeks, and the other weeks some beers) on a Friday! I think it was a nice job easy and earn enough a week to save something!
I hope that the weather is a little bit good in New Zealand because it’s autumn over there and the winter is coming. The first thing I want to see is up north from Auckland the bay of Islands and Cape Reigna (or something like that). A lot of people recommended these places and said to me spent the most of your time on the south island (west coast and Queenstown).
I’ll see what happens and enjoy the travels again!
Finished work 21/04/07
After I finished my job I celebrated a little bit a party! I met some girls they came just back from New Zealand, they were very nice to give me a New Zealand simcard and some tips!
The next day I went with two other guys to a show in the opra house. We were very lucky because it was actually booked out but we could stay and we had to pay only 33% of the ticket. It was a pretty cool show about sex&death&desire. The show was on a projection screen, pictures, music and little movies. Also was there a drummer from Africa and a singer.
The last day was preparing for New Zealand and i didn’t do anything specials!

Hi Frans,
Groeten,
Bert

How are you doing? It has been a very long time. So maybe you dont know me anymore. We arent exactly what you call ‘friends’. Anyway I was kinda curious about your weblog, so I take a look. Shocking! You are in aussie for months now. And from what I read everything is going very smoothly. It wasnt my intention to read it all, but you know how curiosity work. By the way, the foto’s are impressive. Hopefully I didnt offend you by reading it. Some have the strangest idea that their log are meant for certain people to read and can be scary when others do.
Anyway it is rude to read and not leaving some comments. So Frans, have a good time and enjoy yourself while you still can. Make the best of it when you arrive in Nieuw Zeeland.
All in all, a quite pleasant surprised.
groeten,
D.Nguyen

Lieve Frans

Herman

Hoi Frans
Zo te lezen gaat alles goed in Australie.
!
Groetjes

My workweek is also short, only an exam next wednesday. After that i’ll be free for 1.5 week.
Evert says Hi. (he doesn’t really like the fact that you’re wrighting in Englisch now.)
Once again the pictures look too good. It makes me jealous, but the weather is changing and some days are warm and sunny already.
Enjoy your free days.
