Outback Adelaide-Alice-Darwin
Melbourne Adelaide (28-05-07)
I’ve the idea to go to the out back from Adelaide. When i came back in Melbourne it was pretty strange because i knew everything etc but the people in the backpackers changed. I knew one thing that I didn’t want to hang around Melbourne to long because I thought that it should be a waste of time.
I spended 3 days in Melbourne. By updating my internet stuff and planning the rest of the trip and walk a little through Melbourne again. The only new thing i did was visit the botanical gardens properly.
After that I went straight to Adelaide to look if there is a lift offer to Alice Springs (middle from the middle). To see the uluru and kings canyon and cooper pedy and flinders range.
I have contact now with two people a girl from Austria with a van. And a italian girl who wants to rent a van or car with 2-3 other people. The girl from Austria want to leave Wednesday and the other girl Friday. I going to meet them today and than i’ll decide!
Outback trip, Adelaide-Darwin (12-06-07)
I decided to go with the girl from Austria because she wanted to leave earlier and she had her own van (Lilly) so we could take our time. She is from Saltzburg and is trying to become a Australian resident because she likes it here a lot more than back in Austria. The first day we met up did some shopping and looked what we wanted to do.
We decided to go to the Flinders ranges as first destination. The second day we arrived there in the evening after a few 100km straight road with a lot of road trains (trucks with 2-5 big trailers). The next morning we did a walk around Wilpena pound. The walk was a pretty big one 25km in totally and there were some steep parts included. The walk was pretty cool and we saw nice landscape and some kangaroo’s. In the evening we went away from the national park and decided to travel on to the next destination.
Cooper pedy was our next stop, the opal capital of the world. (90% off al the opals are from there). It was a little crazy town only 3000 people (opal lovers) are living there and they have 51 different nationalities. We thought that there was a lot to do, but after 4 hours we decided to go on. In the 4 hours we met a Hungarian man who explained us a lot about opal mining, he had as well a mine. He gave us some opals for a remembering).
The next goal was the Uluru (the big red stone in the middle of Australia). It took us a while to come there because the distances are long. But it was always fun to travel we met a lot of grey nomads (retired australians) who invited us for several things like breakfast in there camper or a campfire at night with some bakes potatoes etc. In the end the most of them give there address and invited us to come to there home if we were in the neighborhood.
We could see the Uluru from a big distance when we arrived. It is an impresive rock in the middle of nowhere. It is also the biggest monument in the world and a religious stone for the aboriginal people. We did a walk around it and watched the sun set and made some diner there. The color from the rock change during that time, that was good to see when I took every 5 minutes a picture.
In the same national park are as well the Olga’s. The next day we did a hike there and watched the sun set there. The walk was a lot nicer because there was more chalange and there were some nice look-outs. That night we went to the resort town and watched some music. After that we drove a little in the direction of kings canyon. At that trip we found out why the most Ozzies not drive if it is dark in the out back. There were a lot of animals (kangaroos, dingo’s, cows and camels) on the road or very close next to it.
In the morning when we drove to kings canyon we saw some wild camels it was pretty strange to see them in the nature. We did as well a little walk around the canyon, it was again pretty nice and variated.
The next day we drove to Alice Springs where we splited up, because she want to meet her sister who is visiting her and I wanted to leave Alice pretty fast because there is nothing to do and a lot of crazy people (alcoholics etc.)
I met two French Canadian (Quebec) guys who wanted to go to Darwin as fast as possible. I decided to join them and shared petrol cost and driving with them. We drove in one day to Darwin (1500km). We had a evening meal by the devils remakables.
Here in Darwin is the temprature also a lot better (in the nights in the outback it was freezing or nearly freezing). Also everything is a bit greener and there are more facilities.
Darwin 21-06-07
I’m still together with the French Canadian guy’s. The first few day’s in Darwin we relaxed a little and looked for a job. We found a job in a five star Seefood restaurant, as kitchenhand and waiters. The job is nice but the hours are not that good. (from 6pm till 10-11pm). During the day I worked ones for the hostel owner in his garden, painting and gardening. Maybe he has some more jobs in the future.
One day we went to Litchfield National Park, only with one of the Canadian guy’s because the kitchenhand has more hours. There were some awesome waterfalls, rockholls and termite mounds. We could swim in the rockholls and by the waterfalls that was very refreshing on a hot day like that. The tempratures are here between the 25-32 degrees and it is almost everyday clear blue. The perfect season to be here in the summer (wetseason) it is so hot 35-40+ and a lot of rain.
We went also on advise from some other people to the darwin sunset market. There was a lot to see, buy, eat and listen. There was a guy who played four digeridoo’s, a fire player a lot of food places etc. There was also a place were you could try roadkill animals. We tried Buffelo, Camel, Croc, Kangaroo and Possum.

I’m back home now, yesterday I arrived as a surprise for my family home (my dad´s 50st birthday)! Three day’s before that I arrived tired in Amsterdam and called my grandmother if I could stay for three days there. She thought as well that it was a great idea so I could stay there for three days!
But before that i was two day’s in Bali, kuta. I think it is a nice place but it is hard to tell in two day’s. The thing i didn’t like over there is that the people see you as a walking wallet. I spent the two days there with three other guys who i met on the airport, two kiwi’s and a dutchy. The main reason for them to go to Bali was the surf spots, so during the day when they were surfing I bought some souvenirs and we had together breakfast lunch dinner and a few beers in the evening. Every man in Bali, is a taxidriver has the cheapest clothes and knows very beautiful young girls. You could see everywhere scooters market shops and in the evening a lot of beautiful girls hunting for rich man.
The second day we had a massage, it was good they even cut our nails while we had the massage. The only bad thing is they wanted more money than they told us in the beginning. But that is their culture i think so.
After my second day in the evening i had to go to the airport to fly home. The flight was good, except that the people in London were to slow to change my bag. My baggage was still in London when I arrived in Amsterdam. Two days later i heard that they send my baggage to Milan by truck because London Heathrow is a big mess and they need some help to solve their problems. But hopefully I get my baggage soon.
So I arrived with only one set of clothes by my grandmother, luckily enough was she so nice to do some shopping with me to buy some extra clothes and shoes.
Now I’m back in reality so I’m going to sort my pictures out and look for a job. Also I’ll never forget this incredible trip and want to thank everybody who made it possible and all the nice people I met for the nice times we spent!

Hidde is geslaagd!!!!
Dat waren weer de nieuwtjes,
liefs,
Klazien

Hallo Frans,

Liefs,
Klazien
